Sex and the Digital

Dozenten

Beschreibung

How does the digital affect our intimate relationships?
What do Tinder, Grindr and Fetlife do to our ways of connecting? How
are AI and biosensory feedback devices changing our experiences of
pleasure? How do we learn and visualise sex in the age of YouPorn and
OnlyFans, and how is the internet porn industry connected to the
exploitation of marginalised minorities? How do we get a grasp on
generative AI, non-consensual porn and new forms of sexual and
political oppression? What role does the entanglement of digital
capitalism and digital sex play in the perpetuation of social power
structures? In this seminar we will employ methods from critical
philosophy, feminism, queer theory, critical race theories and ethics
of AI to approach the intersections between digitalisation and all
matters sexual.

This seminar will be co-taught with diversity expert Daniela Hombach (Berlin).

In this seminar we put an extra effort into creating an inclusive,
diverse and fair discussion atmosphere.

This seminar is open to both Bachelor and Master students but has a
maximum capacity of 25 seats. Selection will be based on a short
motivation letter, in which you should briefly introduce yourself,
your prior experience in the field of ethics and critical theories of
AI (e.g., course taken in the Ethics and Critical Theories of AI
research group at the IKW), your philosophical background and
interests, as well as your personal motivation to delve into this
topic. Please send your motivation letter to
office-muehlhoff@uni-osnabrueck.de by 31.10.2024, stating the seminar
title in the subject line. Notice of approval and the readings for the
first session will be send out until mid November.

The seminar is a “small block seminar”: Three times during term time we
will meet from Thursday 18:00 until Friday 18:00 with a social event on
Thursday evening. Participants must be able to attend all three blocks.
